Study evaluates the impact of the MRVA regarding the height of wind turbines in Austria

October 2013 | Performance Analyses

Numerous wind turbine operators in Austria are facing increasing complications in gaining the official approval for the construction of wind farms. This includes mainly the close proximity of Vienna Airport, because Austria’s ANSP Austrocontrol is afraid that the construction of wind turbines with heights up to 200 m AGL may result in an increased Minimum Radar Vectoring Altitude (MRVA, or Surveillance Minimum Altitude, SMA). The main question is whether the increased MRVA will affect the flight operations, thus limiting the air traffic capacities, or not.

GfL provided a study that focuses on the flight operational part of this set of questions.
