GfL evaluates flight operational hazards of aircraft holding points at Frankfurt Airport

April 2013 | Safety Assessment

After receiving the official approval for the future expansion of Frankfurt Airport in 2007, the airport subsequently started to expend and modify the existing taxiway system in close vicinity to the existing parallel runways. These taxiways include new aircraft holding points. Aircraft holding at these holding points, as they were planned for the official approval procedure, may interfere with the protected zones for arriving and departing aircraft as defined by ICAO and EASA. To maintain safe operations, a safety assessment will be performed by GfL to analyse the collision risks induced by aircraft holding at the new and existing holding points alongside the parallel runways.
