Completion of the RUBIN-ISC research project

October 2025 | Airport Planning

GfL participated in the RUBIN-ISC research project – Industrial Standard Carbon Concrete (ISC). The aim of ISC was to develop an initial industrial standard for carbon concrete components through the collaboration of 15 alliance partners from science and industry. GfL's goal within the project was to develop a concept for how carbon concrete can be used on airfield surfaces.

The following fundamental results were achieved:
  • Creation of a requirements profile and necessary test procedures for the use of carbon concrete in airport applications,
  • Design of requirements for the certification of carbon concrete in relation to airport applications,
  • Creation of a safety concept for multifunctional carbon concrete components with electrical components at airports,
  • Development of a general procedure for the approval of new types of materials for use on airfield surfaces (“4-step plan”)
