Safety assessment for simultaneous operations at Freiburg airport

GfL was commissioned by the city of Freiburg to perform a risk analysis of simultaneous operations at the grass runway and the parallel taxiway M at Freiburg Airport, due to ICAO/EASA violations (minimum separation). The objective of the study was to determine and evaluate collision risks between a landing glider on the grass runway and taxiing or stationary aircraft on the parallel taxiway. The collision risk determination was based on empirical flight track data of glider movements at Freiburg airport, which were recorded by the Akaflieg Freiburg - Akademische Fliegergruppe Freiburg e.V. during normal flight operations. As a result, two alternative risk mitigation measures were derived to ensure safe operations at Freiburg airport.
