Next milestone reached in UBA research project "Flight progress data as a basis for aircraft noise calculations"

April 2020 | Environment

The focus of the above-mentioned research project of the Federal Environment Agency (UBA) is the development of a standardised methodology for precise aircraft noise calculations based on flight path data (see News). After extensive investigations GfL has reached another milestone and has now handed over the latest interim results for the determination of complete flight tracks (4D trajectories) by combining monitoring system data (e.g. FANOMOS, ADS-B) to the UBA. The focus was on a statistical error analysis of these monitoring system data in comparison to a reference trajectory based on an FDR test data set and the development of model-based smoothing methods. The next step based on this deals with the determination of the aircraft mass and engine thrust from the flight path data and is currently in process.
