GfL delivers capacity assessment concerning the runway system of Oslo Gardermoen Airport (OSL) to AVINOR

November 2017 | Airport Planning

In 2006, GfL first assessed the capacity of the parallel runway system at Oslo Gardermoen Airport (OSL). At that time, the planning vision of a third runway for Norway’s largest airport was focused. This masterplan is still valid, for example resulting in a terminal extension in 2017. For the next decade, provision is made for setting up a departure manager system (D-MAN), realizing rapid exit taxiways on both runways and – longer-term – building a third runway. All these options were considered within specific traffic scenarios as part of the assessment being recently submitted. Furthermore, the effects on runway capacity at OSL by applying separation minima pursuant to RECAT-EU were determined. The capacity calculation’s method is generally based on Statistical Queuing Modelling and fast-time simulations. AVINOR is the operator of all Norwegian aerodromes controlled by ATC as well as air navigation service provider (ANSP).
