Measurement of the properties of signal lamps at lighting laboratory in progress

February 2019 | Certification

Along the investigation of signal lamps for the identification of airport vehicles (e.g., follow me vehicles, rescue and emergency vehicles etc.) on behalf of German Airports Association ADV, the measurement of specific signal lamps in the lighting laboratory is currently being carried out (see news entry November 2018) . Aim is to derive statements on central properties such as peak intensities, beam angles and flash rates. A special luminance camera is used as a measuring device for this purpose, which permits precise, spatially resolved measurements.

In total, up to nine signal lamps and a vehicle roof lightbar are being analyzed, having different types of light media (light emitting diode, flash tube, halogen lamp with rotating mirror) and housing/lens shapes. The signal lamps are provided by the manufacturers Hänsch Warnsysteme GmbH and HELLA GmbH & Co. KGaA being major distributors at German airports.
