Further electromagnetic compatibility studies (ILS and ASR) concerning a building’s renovation in the vicinity of the apron at Frankfurt/Main airport completed

March 2017 | Safety Assessment

The renovation planning of an office building located in the apron’s vicinity at Frankfurt/Main airport recently required electromagnetic compatibility studies of CNS facilities on the basis of § 18a LuftVG (german air traffic act) and requirements of the competent authority as well as Federal Supervisory Authority for Air Navigation Services (BAF). Once again the proven methodology was applied in cooperation with our partner FCS Flight Calibration Services GmbH (refer to news post February 2017). In order to guarantee detailed input data additional electromagnetic analyzes were conducted at measuring facilities of Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB, Germany's national metrology institute). The aim was to measure the damping behavior of specific facade materials and the results were subsequently implemented into the electromagnetic simulations of stray fields. Thereby, an unique accuracy concerning the implementation of radar facility parameters and their reflection behavior when impinging the building’s surface is achieved and ensured.
