At Frankfurt Airport's RWY 18, drainage channels were retrofitted in the shoulder area on both sides of the runway, thus increasing its width. As a result, the cross slopes will probably no longer meet EASA requirements at least partially, also due to the ramping of underground structures in this area. The aim of the contracted investigation is to demonstrate that flight operations will continue to be safe and regular and, where necessary, to develop appropriate risk reduction measures.
